There are three songs I’ve been playing on an almost obsessive loop in recent days. Metronomy’s ‘She Wants’ is the second of those songs. My love for Metronomy is deep and unabiding. Their album Nights Outarrived like an aural revelation and the realisation they were at that time three geek guys singing about geek love was just perfect. Certainly perfect enough for me to see them four times in three countries within a 12 month period. ‘She Wants’ is the first single from their follow-up album, The English Riviera. Where Nights Out was chaotic in a cutesy way that can’t help but be endearing. ‘She Wants’ however hints at the band taking a more mature approach. Portishead pulled it off with Third. Cut Copy did too with Zonoscope. ‘She Wants’ leaves me hopeful that Metronomy can do the same when The English Riviera finally comes out later this year.
